WWE WrestleMania 42 no longer taking place in New Orleans

This story has been updated.

In a surprise turn of events, WWE has to find a new location for next year’s WrestleMania 42 as the event reportedly will no longer take place in New Orleans.

The news was first reported by Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston, obtained via a statement from the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. Our Dave Meltzer reported that WWE informed the various groups involved Thursday morning.

According to the media outlet, the city will host the event in a “later, unspecified year.”

The new location for next year’s WrestleMania is unknown and given parent company TKO’s desire for site fees, the process for finding a new host city for their biggest events of the year is likely already underway.

The show was originally set for Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 12th.

However, New Orleans will host the 2026 edition of Money in the Bank with the date and location yet to be revealed. Thurston noted that this week, July’s UFC 318 was announced for the Smoothie King Center as part of a new agreement between the city and WWE/UFC owners TKO, alluding to future WWE events perhaps being part of that.

The Rock had announced New Orleans as the host city during a February 2025 edition of SmackDown following reports earlier in the month that the city was locked in for the show.

It was to be the third WrestleMania New Orleans hosted at the Caesars Superdome with the first being WrestleMania 30 in 2014 followed by WrestleMania 34 in 2018. It’s one of a shortlist of facilities to host multiple WrestleManias.
