Reigns to make Universal title announcement on WWE SmackDown

An announcement regarding the Universal Championship will be made on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

WWE is hyping that Universal Champion Roman Reigns will make a “blockbuster announcement” regarding his title on SmackDown tonight. The announcement comes in advance of this year’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view taking place on Sunday, February 21.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Reigns defending his Universal Championship in an Elimination Chamber match is planned for the Elimination Chamber PPV. A WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match has already been announced for the event, with Drew McIntyre defending his title against Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, The Miz, and Sheamus.

Last week’s SmackDown ended with Kevin Owens attacking Reigns and giving him a stunner. Owens ambushed Reigns during a segment where Reigns was demanding that men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge make his WrestleMania 37 decision and acknowledge Reigns as the main event of WrestleMania.

Reigns retained his Universal Championship against Owens in a Last Man Standing match at January’s Royal Rumble PPV.

Also on SmackDown tonight, Seth Rollins will make his return to the show. Rollins returned to WWE programming as an entrant in the men’s Royal Rumble match, making his first appearance since November. Rollins (real name Colby Lopez) and Becky Lynch (Rebecca Quin) welcomed the birth of their daughter Roux in December.
