Netflix reveals premiere date for six-episode ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries

Netflix’s long-anticipated docuseries on Vince McMahon is set to premiere in less than a month.

Titled “Mr. McMahon,” the docuseries will be available to stream on Netflix starting on Wednesday, September 25. The project has been in development since 2020, evolving along the way given the sexual abuse allegations that have been made against McMahon.

The series will feature six one-hour episodes. It’s produced by sports media personality Bill Simmons and “Tiger King” executive producer Chris Smith.

Netflix’s poster for the series describes McMahon as both a “mastermind” and a “madman.” The full synopsis can be read below:

‘Mr. McMahon’ chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE. From his transformation of the WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse to the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation, this six-episode series offers a deep dive into McMahon’s life and his enduring franchise. Culled from over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (prior to his resignation), his family members, business associates and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations — filmmaker Chris Smith (‘Tiger King’) and executive producer Bill Simmons (’30 for 30′) present an unflinching, no-holds-barred look at one of the most enigmatic figures in sports entertainment.

McMahon resigned from WWE and its parent company TKO Group Holdings this January in the wake of the lawsuit filed against him by former WWE employee Janel Grant, who accuses the 79-year-old McMahon of physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. McMahon has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “frivolous litigation” meant to harm his reputation.

“The goal behind ‘Mr. McMahon’ was to pull back the curtain and reveal the true Vince McMahon, obscured beneath the persona he presented to the world,” director/producer Chris Smith said in a press release.

“Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

The docuseries is premiering just a few months before WWE Raw moves to Netflix in January 2025.
