Editor’s note: This article references results from NXT UK television episodes that have yet to air.
The finals of the Tag Team title tournament were confirmed, a no disqualification match was added to the TakeOver: Blackpool card, and the build to another possible match for the special was furthered at today’s NXT UK television tapings in Liverpool.
Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) will face Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool to determine the brand’s inaugural Tag Team Champions. Gibson & Drake defeated Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews in a semifinal match at today’s tapings, and Bate & Seven advanced by defeating Mark Coffey & Wolfgang yesterday.
A no DQ match between Dave Mastiff and Eddie Dennis was also announced for TakeOver: Blackpool at today’s tapings. NXT UK authority figure Johnny Saint made the announcement after Mastiff faced Dennis at the tapings and their match ended in a double DQ.
While not officially announced for TakeOver, Travis Banks and Jordan Devlin continued their storyline ahead of a possible match in Blackpool. Devlin defeated Damien Weir (Chief Deputy Dunne) and then backed away from a challenge that Banks issued. Later in the tapings, Banks defeated Tyson T-Bone despite a distraction from Devlin. Banks stood tall after Devlin came to the ring.
United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne defending against Joe Coffey is also set for TakeOver: Blackpool, along with Toni Storm challenging for Rhea Ripley’s UK Women’s Championship. The special is being held at the Empress Ballroom on Saturday, January 12, 2019 and will air live on the WWE Network.
