Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn, New Day appearance set for WWE SmackDown

WWE has announced two additions to the lineup for tonight’s SmackDown.
It was announced this afternoon that Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn will take place on SmackDown tonight. An appearance by The New Day has also been added to the episode, with Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods returning for the first time since being laid out by The Viking Raiders four weeks ago.
Last Friday, McIntyre laid out Zayn with a Claymore during the main event segment of the show. Zayn, who calls himself the “Honorary Uce,” got in the way and took the Claymore for Reigns when McIntyre and Reigns were brawling. But McIntyre was still able to drop Reigns with another Claymore to end the segment.
McIntyre will challenge Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle on Saturday, September 3.
The Viking Raiders’ attack on The New Day last month included targeting Woods’ leg and Pillmanizing it inside of a steel chair. On last week’s SmackDown, The Viking Raiders held a “Viking Funeral” for The New Day.
Tonight’s SmackDown is being held at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The updated card for the show is listed below:
- Second-chance fatal four-way match: Dana Brooke & Tamina vs. Shotzi & Xia Li vs. Doudrop & Nikki A.S.H. vs. Natalya & Sonya Deville (winning team replaces Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne in WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament)
- Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn
- Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin
- The New Day return
