Kurt Angle details plans for nixed WWE return program

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has explained the storyline that he was recently supposed to make his return to the company for.
Angle stated on an episode of his Kurt Angle Show podcast last month that he had been contacted by WWE to return to television for a month or so. Though he was brought to St. Louis for the Royal Rumble, Angle didn’t end up being used at the pay-per-view. Angle later said that the idea for a three-week program had been dropped at the last second.
On a new episode of his podcast on Ad Free Shows, Angle noted that the idea was for him to be involved in the feud between Raw Tag Team Champions Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis) and RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle). The plan was for Angle to be the special guest referee for a match between the teams at Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia, but that matchup didn’t end up happening at the pay-per-view.
“There are a lot of rumors going around that I was supposed to be booked for WrestleMania 38, which is not true at all,” Angle said. “If you saw the posts, a lot of people thought that I was talking about WrestleMania when I was talking about what I was going to do at the Royal Rumble and have the program for a few weeks. Then the blow off would be in Saudi Arabia, where I would referee the match between RK-Bro and Alpha Academy.”
“So I am not signed with WWE by any means. We didn’t cut a deal. That whole program got canceled at the last second. So it never happened. It’s unfortunate, but you know, sometimes they have different plans for these guys. So there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Riddle was one of the participants in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match at the Saudi Arabia PPV, while Orton, Gable, and Otis weren’t on the show.
RK-Bro became the number one contenders to Alpha Academy’s titles by defeating Gable & Otis in a three-stage Academic Challenge. Riddle & Orton will get their title shot on next week’s Raw.
