Kofi Kingston to challenge for Daniel Bryan’s WWE title at WrestleMania

After a number of twists and turns, Kofi Kingston is finally going to WrestleMania.

The New Day came out to start SmackDown tonight, hinting that they were thinking about quitting after Kofi Kingston lost to Daniel Bryan in an impromptu match last week after winning a gauntlet match that was for a shot at the WWE title at WrestleMania. Vince McMahon came out and didn’t buy that the New Day were quitting and instead questioned if Big E and Xavier Woods were a B+ team. He put them in a gauntlet match where if they won, Kofi Kingston would get the title shot.

Most of the final hour of SmackDown was dedicated to the gauntlet match. The New Day easily dispatched Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, but had a tougher time defeating Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev and The Bar, who put Big E through a table after their loss. The Usos followed, but showed respect to the team by forfeiting.

The final team was Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan. After a back and forth match, Big E turned over the announce table on Rowan and was able to get a count out victory, securing Kofi Kingston’s WWE title shot.

WrestleMania 35 will take place on April 7 at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
