Kevin Owens-Shane McMahon segment set for WWE SmackDown

Kevin Owens’ storyline firing could come to an end on tonight’s SmackDown.

WWE has announced that Owens has been invited to tonight’s show by Shane McMahon. Shane tweeted: “This is an important time for @WWE and its Superstars. We can not afford to have distractions therefore I am inviting @FightOwensFight to #SDLive tonight so we can settle this lawsuit once and for all.”

After the firing angle began the previous week, Owens appeared in the crowd on SmackDown last Tuesday. It was revealed that he had filed “the largest wrongful termination lawsuit in history” against Shane. Owens said the lawsuit also includes a clause where — if Owens wins — he’ll be able to fire Shane.

Owens was “fired” by Shane on the September 10 episode of SmackDown. He was the referee for Shane’s King of the Ring semifinal match against Chad Gable, with Shane suggesting that he would rescind Owens’ $100,000 fine if Owens helped him win.

Gable quickly defeated Shane, but Shane then made it a two-out-of-three falls match. Owens tried to help Shane, but Shane tapped out to an ankle lock after Owens stopped him from using a steel chair.

Owens wrestled at SmackDown’s house shows in Manila, Philippines, Shanghai, China, and Honolulu, Hawaii this past weekend. The storyline explanation was that Shane allowed him to wrestle at the events while considering a resolution to the lawsuit.

WWE is back at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California for the second straight night tonight. Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair & Carmella is set for SmackDown. There will also be a segment where Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan “clear the air” between them, and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will do a sit-down interview about his upcoming title defense against Brock Lesnar on SmackDown’s FOX premiere.
