John Cena officially joins cast of second ‘Suicide Squad’ movie

John Cena is officially part of the cast for the next Suicide Squad movie.

The cast of the film was revealed via a tweet from director and writer James Gunn today, with Gunn writing “Don’t get too attached.” The movie is called “The Suicide Squad” and is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021.

Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Michael Rooker, Peter Capaldi, Daniela Melchior, Jennifer Holland, Julio Ruiz, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Pete Davidson, Storm Reid, Juan Diego Botto, Sean Gunn, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Jai Courtney, Joaquin Cosio, and David Dastmalchian are also in the cast.

The first Suicide Squad movie hit theaters in 2016, with it featuring characters from the DC Comics extended universe. The plot was that “A secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.”

Cena being in talks to join “The Suicide Squad” was first reported by Variety in April. Cena’s character for the movie has yet to be confirmed, though it’s been rumored that he’ll be playing Peacemaker.

In June, it was announced that Cena will also be part of the cast for “Fast & Furious 9.”

Cena’s most recent appearance on WWE television was at Raw Reunion in July. He also appeared at WrestleMania 35 but hasn’t wrestled since January of this year.
