John Cena: ‘I love wrestling so much more’ than acting

  • Ian Carey

Despite how he sounds in his promos these days, John Cena says he actually enjoys wrestling far more than he does acting.

Cena took part in a Q&A session at Fan Expo Dallas 2025 recently, where he was asked which of his two professions he enjoys more. He responded:

“To be quite honest, and this is not a knock, I don’t think this is going to lose me any movie jobs because I do give my all to every opportunity I have, just like we’re here today, I’m trying to answer all your questions. I love wrestling so much more. So much more. There’s no denying the magic in an arena for a live WWE broadcast. I love wrestling so much more, and I’m fine saying that. And if that knocks me out of the movie business, I’ll be accountable for saying that.”

Before Cena answered, an audience member said they assumed he liked acting more than wrestling because in wrestling you can get hurt. Cena joked that he gets his feelings hurt in the movie industry too.

“Acting – they hurt your feelings a lot too, though. I don’t know if you’ve seen some of my stuff or read the reviews. They will hurt your feelings.”

John Cena in Season 2 of Peacemaker

Cena’s appearance at the convention was to promote his return to television in season two of Peacemaker.

The season is set to begin streaming on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. It will consist of eight episodes and has been described as a “soft reboot” of the franchise to clear up some continuity issues with the DCU. Director James Gunn says events in the second season will follow what happens in the new Superman film set to debut on July 11.

The first season of the show aired from January to February 2022. Last month, Cena spoke to EW.com about the gap between seasons.

“I know we’ve had a lot of fans that have been waiting with bated breath, but the DC universe went through a bit of a shift so I’m glad we’re here now, and I think everything is done in the right perspective. I’m so grateful that the audience hasn’t forgotten about us, and to have James not abandon ship and hang in there for whenever the time was right to get back to work, that’s really good.”
