John Cena confirms WWE retirement match will happen in ‘middle of December’

John Cena has given a more precise timeline for when his final match will take place.

At the start of 2025, Cena began a WWE retirement tour that will last through the end of the year. During the promotional tour for his new Amazon Prime movie “Heads of State” this week, Cena confirmed that his last match will happen in the middle of December.

“This is for sure the end for me,” the 48-year-old Cena told ITV’s This Morning about his impending retirement. “My last match is in the middle of December.”

Cena reiterated that mid-December timeline while speaking with The New York Post’s Page Six.

“My last match will be in mid-December. We’re still trying to find a place to do it,” Cena said. “I said 36 dates in January, we’re halfway through. And, gosh, it’s been a lot of compelling TV. And I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, but I think we’re just getting started.”

The expectation has been that TD Garden in Boston will host Cena’s retirement match, making it a homecoming for the West Newbury, Massachusetts native. A December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event at TD Garden is rumored, but WWE has not confirmed that or announced its December schedule.

Cena turned heel earlier this year on the road to winning the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. The two will have a rematch for the title at SummerSlam in New Jersey next month.
