John Cena and Cody Rhodes segment slated for next WWE SmackDown

The Undisputed WWE Champion and his SummerSlam challenger will be in the building for next week’s SmackDown.

WWE champ John Cena and 2025 King of the Ring winner Cody Rhodes have been advertised for an “under one roof” segment on the Friday, July 18 SmackDown episode set for San Antonio.

Rhodes earned his number one contender status and the right to challenge Cena for the WWE title at SummerSlam by virtue of winning the King of the Ring, with the finals held at last month’s Night of Champions in Saud Arabia.

The build to SummerSlam will begin in earnest next week following this weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event television special and Sunday’s Evolution PLE.

This year’s SummerSlam is the first-ever two-night edition of the event, with the shows set for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3. Also slated for the show is 2025 Queen of the Ring winner Jade Cargill challenging the WWE Women’s Champion — the winner of Sunday’s Tiffany Stratton vs. Trish Stratus matchup.
