Jey Uso on WWE Royal Rumble win: Not one person thought it was going to be me

Jey Uso didn’t know he would win the Royal Rumble until the show was almost ready to begin.

On Wednesday, Uso spoke with Daniel Cormier about his experience this weekend and noted that he didn’t find out he was winning until a meeting involving the four wrestlers planned to still be in at the end of the Rumble.

“They told me like halfway during the day Saturday. ‘Hey, we need the last four to come in here.’ I’m last four, I see who’s with me. They let me know and then I automatically went straight to my brothers,” Uso said. He later added that he liked the idea of fans not expecting him to win.

“I knew I liked it because I knew not one person in that arena thought it’s going to be me,” Uso continued, evidently not having read our site’s Preview & Predictions post for the Rumble that predicted his victory.

“I like that that’s the swerve. Just like on Monday Night Raw against Bron Breakker, one of the hottest upcoming Superstars, he’s not going to beat him on a Monday Night Raw,” Uso continued, referring to his Intercontinental Championship victory over Breakker last year. “And everybody went crazy.”

“That’s the emotion that I like to pump to the fans like we got to swerve because everyone’s smart today, everyone thinks they know.”

Uso appeared on WWE Raw on Monday but did not announce which champion he will face at WrestleMania. World Heavyweight Champion Gunther confronted Uso and said he’d gain nothing from beating him again. Uso is scheduled to appear on Friday’s episode of SmackDown as well.
