Edge vs. Sheamus set for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Edge will wrestle Sheamus on next week’s WWE SmackDown as the promotion celebrates the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut.

As announced during a promo segment on this week’s show, Edge will take on Sheamus in singles competition on the Friday, August 18 edition of SmackDown in Toronto. The show has been promoted as an Edge 25 years celebration.

The match with Sheamus will be the first for Edge since a July 7 SmackDown match against Grayson Waller at Madison Square Garden.

Also announced for next week’s SmackDown, Waller will host The Grayson Waller Effect talk show with guest Rey Mysterio. Mysterio defeated Austin Theory to win the United States Championship in an impromptu match on this week’s SmackDown.

Theory had been set to defend against United States Championship Invitational tournament winner Santos Escobar, but attacked Escobar before the match, giving him a storyline leg injury. On-screen authority figure Adam Pearce then inserted Mysterio in Escobar’s place for Theory’s title defense, and Mysterio captured the US title for the third time in his career.

The announced lineup for next week’s SmackDown:

  • Edge 25 years celebration
  • Edge vs. Sheamus
  • The Grayson Waller Effect with guest United States Champion Rey Mysterio
