Drew McIntyre says he’s working hurt after WWE Backlash spot

Drew McIntyre is banged up right now, but it’s not enough to force him out of action.
There was a spot at WWE Backlash earlier this month where McIntyre’s head hit the floor when he was given a South of Heaven chokeslam by Damian Priest from a production area through a table. McIntyre was evaluated by the medical team backstage after the match but was not seriously injured.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend, McIntyre and Priest will continue their rivalry with a steel cage match. McIntyre told the Orlando Sentinel that he can’t turn his head all the way left yet after the spot with Priest at Backlash, but there’s a difference between being hurt and being injured.
“Working hurt is just what happens if you’re an athlete, especially as the years go by,” McIntyre said. “If you’re injured, it is something to take care of. Maybe back in the day, we would have taped it up and gone with it. In the past I have worked with muscle tears and breaks, which isn’t the most sensible thing, but the way we operate now, you want to last for the long run.”
Saturday Night’s Main Event is taking place at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida on May 24. The episode will stream live on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
