Drew McIntyre returns at WWE Money in the Bank, confronts Gunther

Drew McIntyre is back.
McIntyre appeared after Gunther defeated Matt Riddle to retain the Intercontinental title at Saturday’s Money in the Bank. McIntyre and Gunther had a staredown, which eventually ended with McIntyre headbutting Gunther. This was McIntyre’s first appearance since WrestleMania 39, where he lost a three-way match for the Intercontinental title that included himself, Gunther, and Sheamus.
Originally scheduled for the SmackDown following WrestleMania, McIntyre was pulled from the show due to a health issue that started prior to WrestleMania 39. Last month, it was reported that McIntyre’s situation had become a creative one. As part of the 2023 WWE Draft, McIntyre was moved to Raw from SmackDown.
It was reported earlier this year that McIntyre and WWE were “not close on money” regarding a new contract, which is reportedly set to expire sometime in the next year. However, McIntyre’s contract expiration date is a long ways away, and his absence was not related to ongoing contract negotiations.
