Corbin wins WWE King of the Ring, coronation set for SmackDown

Baron Corbin has joined the ranks of WWE’s King of the Ring winners.

On tonight’s post-Clash of Champions edition of Raw, Corbin defeated Chad Gable in the King of the Ring finals. After getting to the ropes when Gable had him in an ankle lock, Corbin hit the End of Days and pinned Gable to win the tournament.

WWE has announced that a coronation segment with Corbin will take place on tomorrow’s SmackDown.

Corbin defeated The Miz in the first round of the tournament and Cedric Alexander in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Corbin defeated Samoa Joe and Ricochet in a triple threat match.

Gable defeated Shelton Benjamin, Andrade, and Shane McMahon to get to the finals. Shane was a replacement for Elias, who missed his scheduled semifinal match against Gable due to an ankle injury.

Corbin is WWE’s first King of the Ring winner since 2015. Wade Barrett defeated Neville in the finals of that year’s tournament.
