Cody Rhodes on We Want Cody movement: ‘Nothing in my career will ever be as touching’

Cody Rhodes says nothing in his career will ever be as touching as the #WeWantCody movement.
Rhodes spoke with NBC News Now, TODAY, and ESPN First Take on Wednesday morning. He told NBC News Now that he is dedicating both nights of WrestleMania to the fans because if it wasn’t for them, he wouldn’t be in the spot he is on the card.
“Nothing in my entire career will ever be as touching,” Rhodes said of the fans’ reaction to him seemingly losing his spot in the WrestleMania main event. ” Just the fact that the biggest movie star on the planet came in – and they still do love him, The Final Boss, The Rock doesn’t realize they still do love him. They just didn’t want him to step in front of this year-long story that we’ve been part of and me trying to capture a championship my family’s never held before. So this WrestleMania, both nights, is dedicated to the fans in the biggest way possible because without them genuinely having spoken up, I wouldn’t be in this slot, who knows if I’d even be on WrestleMania?”
Cody also appeared on Wednesday’s episode of TODAY and spoke about his mother’s reaction to The Rock frequently mentioning her as “Mama Rhodes” on WWE programming.
“You know it’s gotten somewhere when you’re bringing the moms into it,” Rhodes says on the show. “My mom told me she was going to bring her bear spray. I had to let her know you can’t bring that into the stadium.”
“My mom has been part of wrestling, she married my dad when he was at the height of his fame with the industry, she’s seen all this. And I don’t think Rock knows this, I’m not going to be the one to tell him, my mom is usually asleep when the show is on.”
“She’s coming into WrestleMania week in Philadelphia probably with everyone just wondering what she’s going to do, and who knows? She’s the best, she’s seen it all, she’s perfect, she’ll be there in the front row, Rock ain’t getting nowhere near her. And if I can say anything about The Rock’s mom, lovely lady.”
Rhodes also told ESPN’s First Take on Wednesday that if he doesn’t finish his story on Sunday, he might as well “might as well move over to commentary.”
