Cody Rhodes calls WWE WrestleMania 40 win ‘extremely validating’

Cody Rhodes says winning the WrestleMania 40 main event was “extremely validating.”

Rhodes appeared as a guest on TODAY on Monday morning, just hours after finishing his story at Lincoln Financial Field the night before. When asked about his victory on Sunday, Rhodes responded by saying it was extra special because the fans had “willed it into existence.”

Rhodes said:

It feels just so sweet and it’s validating because this main event yesterday, WrestleMania 40, was totally willed into existence by the fans. We were going to go one way, we were thinking Rock vs. Roman Reigns, they made it clear they wanted something else and we got to the finish line. So, extremely validating.

Regarding what Dusty Rhodes’ reaction to the WrestleMania 40 main event would be, Cody Rhodes says he believes his father would have wanted to sit back and say “I told you so.”

Cody Rhodes continued to say of his father:

He had a really unshakeable confidence in me, which I didn’t have in myself. And I look at the match and I know, you know, here’s The Rock, he used to tag with Rock’s dad, here’s Roman Reigns, one of his pupils when he helped train him, Seth Rollins, one of his favorites, here I am, his actual son. I think he would have liked to sit back and just kind of give’em a ‘I told you so. I told you he was alright.’

When Rhodes was asked if he’d had any time yet to reflect on the accomplishment, he mentioned that the quietest time he’d gotten was during his ring entrance last night. He said he feels grateful that his wife Brandi Rhodes was able to be there with him for it.

Rhodes said:

I got to do my entrance with my wife last night and that’s as real as it gets. I can’t do this, I can’t make the sacrifices and all that without what she does so I was blessed to have her be part of that and WWE just did it right.
