Cody Rhodes buying ‘proper wrestling ring’ for Uganda’s Soft Ground Wrestling

Cody Rhodes is doing a good deed for a group of upstart pro wrestlers from Uganda.
This year, one of the best feel-good stories in pro wrestling has been Uganda’s Soft Ground Wrestling, a promotion that has gone viral on social media and gotten the attention of people within the industry. Former WWE wrestlers Mansoor and Mace made the trip to Uganda to appear for the promotion this April. Japanese legend CIMA also visited Soft Ground Wrestling that month.
The passion of the Ugandan wrestlers has drawn praise from Will Ospreay and Jordynne Grace. Rhodes is another star who has taken notice of the promotion. On Tuesday, Soft Ground Wrestling shared a video sent to them by Rhodes. The Undisputed WWE Champion announced that he’s buying a “proper wrestling ring” for the promotion, which has been using a makeshift mud ring.
“We have found someone in Uganda who can make it for you. It’s not coming over on a boat. It’s not going to get broken. We’re going to get it done,” Rhodes said. “And when it gets done, send the bill to me. It is on me. My gift to you. The wrestling business has literally given me everything in my life that I could possibly dream of. And I would just like to give something back to you guys. Welcome you officially into this big wide world of pro wrestling. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.”
Rhodes said it’s been great to see the love that the Soft Ground wrestlers have for pro wrestling. With the world being so divided, Rhodes believes wrestling is something that can bring people together.
Soft Ground Wrestling was founded in 2023. The group uploads content to its YouTube channel and X/Twitter page.
Rhodes has a title defense at WWE Clash at the Castle in Glasgow, Scotland this Saturday. He’s facing AJ Styles in an “I Quit” match.
