Cody Rhodes believes he’s at the ‘tail end’ of babyface run

Though Cody Rhodes would love to be a babyface for the rest of his career, he knows a character change is probably in his future.

While speaking with sports broadcaster Kay Adams at Fanatics Fest last weekend, Rhodes was asked if he ever gets tired of being the nice guy. Rhodes said he loves the support from fans and wishes it would last forever, but he thinks he likely only has 1-3 years left before he needs to change course and turn heel.

“I don’t ever get tired of it because you get to have all of this and these moments. I do think we’re probably at the tail end of it, though. Because there’s only so much someone can like you. I would love to do it until the end of my career, but there’s only so much,” he responded. “At a certain point, they want to see somebody else. I get that. And that’s where you have to change as a character.”

Rhodes acknowledged Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s on-screen (and behind-the-scenes) push for him to turn heel ahead of WrestleMania 41. WWE instead went with John Cena turning and defeating Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

“If The Rock had it his way, I would have been changed already,” Rhodes said. “So I think he sees something that maybe I don’t see. And that’s a very smart individual, so maybe I follow his lead. Maybe not.”

A rematch between Cena and Rhodes could potentially be in the cards for SummerSlam. At Night of Champions this Saturday, it will be Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals. The winner earns a World Championship shot at SummerSlam this August.
