CM Punk announced for WWE SmackDown

CM Punk will be on WWE SmackDown this Friday.

The show takes place at the Allstate Arena in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.

Allstate Arena announced the news on Monday, writing “JUST ANNOUNCED…CM PUNK RETURNS TO ALLSTATE ARENA!!!! SEE YOUR FAVORITE WWE SUPERSTARS LIVE ON JUNE 21”

Punk stated during the Clash at the Castle post-event press conference that he was hoping to be cleared in time for Friday’s show.

“I can tell you that my arm feels amazing,” Punk said. “I got permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi to go home to Chicago to see my doctors with the idea that I am going to be cleared. I don’t know if I am supposed to say that…I think SmackDown is in Chicago next week, so. I’m a Raw guy, I’m going to skip Raw, I’m going to get cleared, and then I’m going to show up to SmackDown and let everybody know the good news, hopefully.”

After tearing his triceps in the men’s Royal Rumble match in January, Punk said he was looking at a recovery time between six and eight months.

“We’re thinking maybe six to eight months but I’m not really in a rush to get back to compete, I’m in a rush to get healthy, I’m in a rush to get better and the sooner I do that the better I’ll be when I come back,” Punk said in February at UFC 298.

As of this writing, nothing else has been announced for Friday’s SmackDown. In last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted 12,427 tickets are out for the show as of last week. Allstate Arena just announced a limited number obstructed-view seats have been released.
