Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens rematch set for SmackDown

Just days after losing the United States Championship, Kevin Owens will get his rematch for the title on this week’s episode of SmackDown.
The match was announced on Monday night, with Chris Jericho set to defend the title against Owens after winning it from him at Payback. As was set up in the storyline leading up to Payback, Jericho also moved to the SmackDown roster after becoming champion.
Whoever holds the championship when SmackDown’s Backlash pay-per-view takes place on May 21st in Chicago will defend against AJ Styles.
Jericho seemingly won’t be on SmackDown much, if at all over the next month after Tuesday despite switching brands. He’s scheduled to be on tour with Fozzy throughout most of May, including a show in West Virginia while Backlash is taking place.
Randy Orton defending the WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal is also advertised for Backlash, along with Breezango challenging for The Usos’ tag titles. The show will be SmackDown’s first PPV to take place after WrestleMania 33 and the roster shakeup.
