Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka announced for WWE SmackDown

WWE has announced a new match for SmackDown.
Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka has been added to the lineup for Friday’s show after both were involved in the WWE Women’s title triple threat at SummerSlam. The finish of the match saw Asuka spray poison mist in Flair’s face moments before being rolled up and pinned by Belair. IYO Sky would cash in her MITB briefcase and win the title shortly after.
“Now, Asuka and Flair square off in a match that SKY is sure to follow closely and will more than likely have championship implications,” reads WWE.com.
Flair and Asuka have had 12 singles matches on WWE programming previously, not including house shows, with their first meeting taking place at WrestleMania 34. Flair holds a 6-5 lead in the head-to-head series with their last match on the June 30 SmackDown in London being ruled a no-contest.
WWE SmackDown on August 11, 2023, will take place from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Three matches and a segment involving the Bloodline are advertised for the show.
SmackDown lineup:
- “What’s Next For The Bloodline?” segment
- United States Championship: Austin Theory defends against Santos Escobar
- AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross
- Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka
