Cena joins Dr. Dolittle cast, talks Duke Nukem role

John Cena has been cast in a new adaptation of Dr. Dolittle.
Robert Downey Jr., who will be playing the lead role, announced on Instagram the cast for the upcoming film. A live action adaptation with talking animals, Cena will voice Yoshi, a polar bear. Other notable talents lending their voice for the film include Selena Gomez, Emma Thompson, Octavia Spencer, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Holland and Kumail Nanjiani. The film is set to be released on April 12, 2019 and will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
Cena, who has started to take on a limited schedule with the WWE in the last year to focus on acting roles, is also attached to a Duke Nukem film project based on the video game character from the 1990s. He recently spoke to Screen Rant about the possibility of playing the character, saying that the film had to have the right story.
“It has to come in told correct, told in a palatable sense for this generation, which you’re walking on eggshells…you can’t not be Duke Nukem, but you can’t make the wrong move…so I’m…what a blessing to be attached to that, a name like that, and I just hope development does the franchise justice” he told them.
John Cena’s next film, Blockers, will be out on April 6.
