Carmella cashes in MITB contract, wins first SmackDown Women’s title

On the post-WrestleMania edition of SmackDown Tuesday, Carmella cashed in her Money In The Bank contract and became the SmackDown Women’s Champion seconds later.

As Charlotte was out doing a promo recapping her win over Asuka at WrestleMania and pondering who might be next, The Iconics (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay) made their WWE debut and ran down the champion before double teaming her for several minutes, laying her out.

That prompted Carmella to emerge from the back with the briefcase she won last July in the first-ever women’s Money In The Bank match. After referee Mike Chioda kept delaying the start of the match, they called for the bell and Carmella kicked Charlotte in the head and pinned her to win her first WWE Women’s title.

The 30-year-old made her main roster debut in July 2016 after several years in NXT alongside Enzo Amore and Big Cass.

Charlotte had held the title since last November.
