Bianca Belair ‘very proud’ of her work to elevate WWE women’s tag team division

Bianca Belair says competing in the women’s tag team division has taught her more than any other part of her main roster run.

Belair has spent most of the last year in the division, as her team with Jade Cargill developed in the lead-up to WrestleMania 40 and saw them win the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Backlash 2024. During a recent interview with SHAK Wrestling, Belair spoke about her evolution over the last year.

“When the tag team was presented, I feel like I was in a space where I was excited for it,” she said. “Because if you look at my time on the main roster, I’ve actually been champion more than I haven’t been champion. And I feel like I’ve been able to accomplish so much as a singles competitor and I felt like there were so many women, too, who played a part in my success as a singles competitor, whether it was Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Bayley, and so I really saw an opportunity to really showcase myself in a different way and maybe play a different role where I can do for others what was done for me and I can elevate this tag team division.”

“Being in a tag team, you have to be so selfless, for one. Like, you want to make sure that you stand out but you also share the spotlight with your tag team partner, but you’re also sharing the spotlight with the two other women across from you.”

“It’s a lot less pressure, too. I feel like I can have a little bit more fun. You can share the work with your partner.”

Following a storyline attack on Cargill in November, Belair and Naomi began teaming together. On WWE Raw this week, they dropped the Women’s Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

Belair continued:

“I know eventually I will go back to the singles picture but I feel like it was a nice break for me and it doesn’t always have to be about you for you to be proud of it. And I’m very proud of the work that I’ve put in, the work that I’ve done in this tag team division.”

“I feel like I’ve learned so much this year. It’s just evolved me even more as a competitor, as a character, as a human being. I’ve learned so much. I’ve just grown.”

“I’ve learned more in a different way this year since I’ve been on the main roster.”

Up next for Belair is the Women’s Elimination Chamber match on Saturday in Toronto. Belair qualified for the match by defeating Piper Niven in a qualifier on the February 7 episode of WWE SmackDown. However, as WrestleMania 41 approaches, the storyline of who attacked Cargill remains unresolved.
