Becky Lynch wants to open WWE WrestleMania 40 night one

Becky Lynch is hoping that her match against Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley will open WrestleMania 40.

With The Bloodline and Cody Rhodes’ story taking up both spots, Ripley vs. Lynch won’t be able to main event either night one or night two of WrestleMania. Roman Reigns & The Rock vs. Rhodes & Seth Rollins will headline night one. Reigns vs. Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will go on last at night two.

In an interview with ClutchPoints, Lynch said she isn’t worried about not getting to main event WrestleMania this year. Lynch said she’d love to open the show. If Lynch isn’t in the main event, she always wants to be in the first match because the fans are so excited for it.

Lynch said:

Nah, man, I’m not worried about card order. I would love to open the show. I would love that. I’ve never opened WrestleMania before.

And to open this one, as big as it is in Philadelphia, I’m just putting that out there. It would be pretty cool because if it’s not the main event, I always want to be the opening spot — it’s always a great place on the card because people are so excited.

Lynch clarified that she would prefer to open night one instead of night two:

Ooh, night one. I would love to open the whole of WrestleMania, you know what I’m saying? Just [to] be that first match for that whole event.

[Opening the show will] give me enough time that I can relax and really enjoy Colby [Seth Rollins] main eventing WrestleMania and getting to watch him do that because that will be so special.

Lynch secured this WrestleMania title shot against Ripley by winning the women’s Elimination Chamber match last month.

Ripley’s Women’s World Championship reign is closing in on the one-year mark. She won the title from Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023.

WrestleMania 40 is taking place on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.

Before WrestleMania, Lynch’s memoir, “Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl,” will be released this Tuesday (March 26).
