Becky Lynch will be in attendance when SmackDown comes to Madison Square Garden next month.
It was confirmed today that Lynch will be appearing at the Friday, September 10 episode of SmackDown at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Lynch made he return to the ring at SummerSlam this past Saturday, defeating Bianca Belair in under 30 seconds to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
The SmackDown episode at Madison Square Garden is being billed as a supershow that will feature wrestlers from both SmackDown and Raw. John Cena has also been announced for the show, though whether he’ll be appearing on television or just for the live crowd remains to be seen.
The show will be WWE’s first event at Madison Square Garden since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that Lynch requested to return to WWE as a heel. Lynch’s match at SummerSlam was her first appearance on WWE programming since announcing her pregnancy in May 2020. Lynch (real name Rebecca Quin) and Seth Rollins (Colby Lopez) welcomed the birth of their daughter Roux last December.
Belair was originally supposed to face Sasha Banks at SummerSlam, but it was announced right before the match that Banks wouldn’t be able to compete. WWE teased that Carmella would be taking Banks’ place, but Lynch then made her return and laid Carmella out. Lynch challenged Belair to face her instead.
