Bayley wins women’s MITB ladder match, cashes in briefcase

The SmackDown Women’s Championship changed hands twice at tonight’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

After winning the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match earlier in the night, Bayley cashed in her briefcase on Charlotte Flair to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. Charlotte had defeated Becky Lynch for the title before Bayley cashed in.

Lynch retained her Raw Women’s Championship against Lacey Evans tonight, then immediately had her match against Charlotte for the SmackDown title. The story of the finish for Lynch vs. Charlotte was Evans getting involved and hitting Lynch with the Woman’s Right punch when the referee wasn’t looking. Charlotte then gave Lynch a big boot to win after kicking out of an inside cradle.

Bayley made the save for Lynch when Charlotte and Evans were attacking her after the match. Bayley sent Charlotte face-first into the middle turnbuckle, told the referee she was cashing in, and hit an elbow drop from the top rope to win the title.

Bayley moved to SmackDown in last month’s Superstar Shake-up.

This is the second year in a row that the women’s Money in the Bank winner has cashed in on the same night as winning the briefcase. Alexa Bliss cashed in on Nia Jax last year to win the Raw Women’s title.
