Alberto Del Rio suspended by WWE for wellness policy violation

WWE announced Wednesday that Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for 30 days due to a wellness policy violation, effective Thursday.

The company’s statement: “WWE has suspended Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) for 30 days effective tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 18, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.”

The suspension is standard for a first-time violation, but what caused the violation it is not currently known. It is also not known when WWE was informed of the failure, but Del Rio worked on SmackDown last night in a losing effort against John Cena in the show’s main event.

Del Rio returned to the company in 2015 after spending a year outside of the promotion. He was released in 2014 for “unprofessional conduct” after getting into a backstage altercation with a company employee who allegedly made a racist joke.

Del Rio was drafted to Smackdown during the WWE Draft. At this time, it isn’t clear if the violation will have any affect on his immediate future.
