AJ Styles vs. James Ellsworth once again booked for SmackDown

James Ellsworth may finally be getting his shot at AJ Styles and the WWE Championship.
WWE announced on Tuesday afternoon that Styles defending his title against Ellsworth was once again scheduled for tonight’s episode of SmackDown. The announcement also stated that the match would kick off the show.
Styles has been unable to wrestle since suffering an ankle injury in his match against Dean Ambrose at TLC earlier this month. He didn’t appear at any of this weekend’s house shows and Bray Wyatt instead took on Ambrose in the main event of the SmackDown brand events.
Ellsworth interfered to help Styles retain his title against Ambrose at TLC, with the storyline being that Ellsworth thought he had a better chance against Styles after getting three fluke wins over him on SmackDown in recent months. Ellsworth has been scheduled to face Styles for the title for the past two weeks, but the match was canceled both times.
Tonight’s show will also feature an Intercontinental Championship match as Apollo Crews challenges The Miz for the title. The two matches join the previously scheduled bout between Ambrose and Luke Harper as advertised matches for this week’s SmackDown.
