Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles booked for WWE Backlash

After picking up a definitive win over John Cena at SummerSlam, AJ Styles will be the next challenger for Dean Ambrose’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Styles defeated Dolph Ziggler in a match to determine the main event of Backlash on Tuesday night’s edition of SmackDown. If Styles won he would face Ambrose one-on-one, but if Ziggler won he would be included in a triple threat match.
Styles will challenge Ambrose for the title on September 11th. Backlash is the first SmackDown-exclusive pay-per-view following the WWE Draft.
The match will be Styles’ fourth time challenging for the championship after competing in this year’s Royal Rumble match for the title and coming up short against Roman Reigns earlier in the year at Payback and Extreme Rules.
Styles has yet to be given a run with any title since joining the company in January. Ambrose originally won his championship at Money in the Bank after cashing in the title opportunity he won earlier in the night to defeat Seth Rollins.
