Following his match against Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver 36, Adam Cole’s contract with WWE is set to expire later this week.
Cole’s WWE contract is scheduled to expire this Friday (August 27), meaning that he wouldn’t be able to negotiate with AEW or any non-WWE promotion until then. Fightful first reported Friday as the date that Cole’s contract expires.
O’Reilly defeated Cole in “The Undisputed Finale” at TakeOver 36 on Sunday. The two-out-of-three falls match featured three different stipulations: a traditional wrestling match, a street fight, and a steel cage match. O’Reilly won the first fall, Cole won the second, and O’Reilly then won the third to win the match.
The 32-year-old Cole’s contract with WWE originally expired last month, but he agreed to an extension through TakeOver 36.
Cole made his WWE debut at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III in August 2017. He held the NXT Championship from June 2019 to July 2020, the longest reign in the title’s history. He also became the inaugural NXT North American Champion in 2018.
