WOR Video: The AEW Grand Slam eliminator tournament is lacking starpower

Another AEW tournament has begun and as usual, starpower is lacking.
Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio Thursday morning discussed the issue. On Wednesday’s Dynamite, AEW revealed the bracket for their latest tournament, the Grand Slam eliminator tournament where the winner will get an AEW World Championship match later this month at Grand Slam in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
When Dave Meltzer asked why names like Orange Cassidy and Bryan Danielson aren’t in the tournament, Bryan Alvarez had an answer.
“Because they don’t want to beat people,” he said.
“These are the eight top contenders?” Meltzer asked. Some strange names are entered in the tournament such as Nick Wayne, who hasn’t won many matches since his AEW debut, Trent Beretta, Jay Lethal, and Samoa Joe, who lost his match at All In. Meanwhile Hangman Page, who just won a battle royal, and Konosuke Takeshita, who beat Kenny Omega at All In, are not in the tournament.
“The World title should be something everyone wants. That’s the whole key to making it mean something,” Meltzer said.
