Is Bryan Danielson winding down soon?

That was a subject on Monday morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio. Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed a segment from Saturday’s Collision where Danielson said he had promised his six-year-old daughter that when she turns seven, he will wind down his wrestling career. Danielson signed with AEW back in the fall of 2021.

“He was looking at it like his last contract,” Meltzer said regarding Bryan’s current deal with the company.

“He had always said he never wanted to retire from wrestling,” he added. “He didn’t want a heavy schedule the last couple of years in WWE. Tony [Khan] gave him an even more limited schedule. The AEW schedule works great for him.”

Danielson did not mention retirement in his promo. But it is clear that down the line, he will be working limited dates, whether it be in AEW or anywhere else.

“I would not be surprised if he wrestles here and there and wrestles in other places when it suits him and when he wants,” Meltzer said. “But I also never expected after this contract that he would be wrestling full time.”

Meltzer also believes that this very well may be Danielson’s last contract with AEW.

“I do believe he believes that he is not going to renew,” he said.

Alvarez mentioned that people he’s talked to thinks that Danielson will never really retire from pro wrestling. But signs do seem to indicate he’s winding down.

“When you bring up your daughter and you make a promise to your daughter…I’ve talked to friends of his who said this dude’s never retiring. But the idea of drastically winding down the schedule, I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s going to do.”
