VIDEO: Dave Meltzer & Bryan Alvarez discuss Mark Briscoe’s loss at ROH Supercard of Honor

Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed one of the bigger surprises of the weekend so far on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Mark Briscoe failed to defeat Samoa Joe, with Joe putting Briscoe in the coquina clutch. Briscoe passed out of the hold, allowing Joe to retain the ROH Television Championship.
“If you’ve ever seen a Tony Khan show, and we’ve seen a lot of them, this was unusual,” Alvarez said on Friday’s show.
Alvarez also noted that after the match, the announcers pushed that this may not be the end to the story of Briscoe looking to capture the ROH Television title.
“They’re trying to tell a longer story,” Meltzer said.
“The announcers were telling the story that he wanted this title,” Alvarez said, referring to the Television title. “This is the belt that he wants and he didn’t get it here…he’s winning this title, and instead of just making it a thing that everyone expects, there’s going to be these roadblocks he has to get to so when he wins it, it’s going to be even bigger.”
