There’s a lot of reasons for AEW not to run a new show on Saturdays

Dave Meltzer talked about the rumored new AEW show on Wrestling Observer Radio.

On Friday’s show, Garrett Gonzales asked Meltzer where the idea behind the Saturday show came from. Meltzer said while he had heard about the Saturday show before reports of CM Punk returning to AEW, it’s possible they could be related.

“I heard about the Saturday show long before [the reports of] Punk coming back. Could it be related? When you look at the idea behind it, it definitely could be related,” Meltzer said.

Meltzer pointed out the biggest problem with AEW running a weekly show on Saturdays is that the show is likely to go head-to-head against some of the biggest sports games of the week as well as WWE, who plan on running their big events on Saturdays.

“You’re going against every big boxing match,” Meltzer said. ”You’re going against college football all fall, you’re going against the World Series, there’s going to be NFL on Saturdays at times. Saturday’s the toughest night for sports. That is going to be a very difficult night for them to draw anything but their most hardcore audience because there’s so much competition.”

Meltzer also said that the show would open for being delayed and preempted due to WBD’s own sports, including NBA.
