Does anyone stand a chance against Jon Jones?: Wrestling Observer Radio

Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed Jon Jones’ dominant win at UFC 285.

On Sunday morning’s show, Alvarez and Meltzer talked about Jones’ win over Ciryl Gane, winning the heavyweight title at two minutes into the first round. After the match, Jones seemingly accepted a future match against former champion Stipe Miocic. However, Meltzer didn’t feel that excited about a possible match between the two.

“This heavyweight division isn’t good,” Meltzer said. “Stipe…I think Stipe is old…don’t do that fight,” Meltzer said. “The last time Stipe fought, he didn’t do anything.”

After the show was over, Stipe Miocic was interviewed. He didn’t have much to say other than he accepted the fight for International Fight Week, which takes place in July.

“Talk about selling not one pay-per-view,” Alvarez said. “They’re begging him to say something, to pull anything out of him. He had nothing to say.”

Neither Alvarez or Meltzer thought that Miocic has a shot against Jones, but Meltzer did add that Jones could have a hard time against Miocic on the ground.

“The thing with Stipe though is that he’s a real wrestler,” Meltzer said. “I’m not saying Jon can’t out wrestle him, but it won’t be a piece of cake…Stipe’s old now, so that changes the dynamic.”
