CM Punk was backstage at Raw: Wrestling Observer Radio

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez talked about CM Punk’s surprise appearance backstage on Raw Monday afternoon.

Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio had Meltzer and Alvarez discuss why exactly CM Punk decided to pull the stunt. He entered the building on Raw Monday and talked to a few people, including Triple H, before eventually being asked to leave by security. This comes as reports indicate that AEW is planning a new weekly Saturday show that would feature Punk.

“Apparently he flew home from Florida to Chicago in a flight with a lot of talent,” Meltzer said.

Both Meltzer and Alvarez said both AEW and WWE were surprised by Punk’s appearance.

“The feeling in WWE is that he was there because he wanted back. Whether that’s true or not, I have no idea,” Meltzer said.

The reasons behind CM Punk’s appearance aren’t known. He also made an appearance in the crowd at NJPW Battle in the Valley back in February.

“Was it a publicity stunt for him to get publicity? I don’t know, you’ll have to ask him what his reasons were,” Meltzer added, pointing out that the announcement of the new television show was coming any day now.
