UFC’s Conor McGregor arrested in Miami

Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor was arrested in Miami, FL, early Monday morning for allegedly smashing a fan’s smartphone.
According to the Miami Police Department, McGregor was charged with strong arm robbery and criminal mischief, both felonies. McGregor and the other person were walking out of the Fontainebleau Hotel at around 5 AM Eastern when the person attempted to take the UFC star’s picture. McGregor allegedly knocked the phone out of his hand and smashed it with his foot before taking it. McGregor, who was staying locally, was later located and arrested.
McGregor’s legal team released a short statement: “Last evening, Conor McGregor was involved a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”
McGregor was infamously arrested in 2018 after throwing a metal dolly through a bus window backstage at Brooklyn, NY’s, Barclays Center. The bus housed several fighters, including future opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov, some of which were pulled off the card due to injuries suffered by broken glass.
McGregor later made a plea deal with the State of New York that included community service. Coincidentally, he just completed that community service within the last week.
The 30-year-old doesn’t have a fight booked, but is expected to return to the Octagon by year’s end.
