UFC on ESPN+ 71 live results: Calvin Kattar vs. Arnold Allen

The Octagon finishes up a busy month of October back at their home base of the Apex in Las Vegas with an exciting featherweight main event that could play a role in the divisional title picture.

Fifth-ranked Calvin Kattar looks to get back into the win column and keep himself in the title picture when he takes on sixth-ranked Arnold Allen, who is on a long win streak. Kattar has been on the cusp of a title shot before, but he’s looking to rebound from a close decision loss to Josh Emmett in June. Allen comes into this fight riding an 11-fight win streak after scoring a first-round TKO win over Dan Hooker in March.

Also on the main card is an exciting welterweight contest between Tim Means and Max Griffin, a heavyweight battle pitting the debuting Waldo Cortes-Acosta against Jared Vanderaa, a middleweight bout between prospects Josh Fremd and Tresean Gore, and a light heavyweight battle of kickboxers as Dustin Jacoby takes on Khalil Rountree.

Rodriguez lands an overhand right. Rodriguez connects with a left hand. They both land body kicks. Rodriguez with a right hand. They clinch for a moment and Weems lands a flurry as they break. Weems briefly gets it to the mat but they stand and Weems still has the clinch edge. Weems pulls guard and Rodriguez lands from the top. Rodriguez goes for a D’Arce choke and it is in deep and Weems taps as he can’t escape. Nice submission from Rodriguez there.

> Flyweights- Cody Durden (13-4-1, 2-2-1 UFC) vs. Carlos Mota (8-1, 0-0 UFC)

Durden with a high kick. Mota with a leg kick. Durden lands a combo that leads into a takedown. Durden is in side control. Durden has body control on the mat as Mota is trying to roll to his knees. Durden trying to work to the full guard. Durden postured up and went back into the guard and Mota almost had an armbar locked in but Durden escaped. Durden in the half-guard and landing right hands. Both landing on the ground. Durden ends the round on top. 10-9 Durden.

Durden going for the takedown to start the second and Mota is defending against the fence. Durden working hard to get it down against the fence but Mota is keeping it up. Durden completes the takedown. Durden landing from inside the guard. Durden still in control from the top as he moves to the half-guard and continues to land. Mota goes for the armbar from the bottom. Durden is defending. Durden gets out and lands from the top as he works back into Mota’s guard. Durden tries for a takedown and looks to grab an ankle and Mota tries to roll but Durden ends up on top after the scramble. Durden looking to take the back of Mota. He has the body triangle almost locked in. Durden looks to flatten Mota out as he lands some right hands. Mota is able to scramble to the top and gets to his feet and Durden stands. Durden shoots for the takedown but Mota keeps it standing. Durden gets it down. Mota lands some hammerfists. Mota trying for a leg. 10-9 Durden, 30-27 Durden.

Garcia lands a left hand and they trade punches. Hooper goes for a takedown but Garcia spins out. They trade and Garcia drops Hooper with a left hand. He lets Hooper up. Garcia with a leg kick and then drops Hooper again with a left hand. He lets Hooper back up and they trade. Garcia with a leg kick. Garcia with a right hook. Hooper lands a spinning back fist. Garcia drops Hooper again and a few follow-up shots ends it. What a showing from Garcia!

> Middleweights- Joseph Holmes (8-2, 1-1 UFC) vs. Jun Yong Park (14-5, 4-2 UFC)

Park with a leg kick. They trade leg kicks. Park with the jab and a leg kick. Holmes with a pair of leg kicks followed by some punches. They have a brief timeout for a potential eye poke but there wasn’t one so they get back to action. Holmes with the jab and lands a right hand and Park counters with a right hand. Park wit a flurry and they clinch with Holmes having position. They break and Holmes slips to the mat and Park is able to grab the back as they get to the mat. Park with a right hand from the back. Park working for a choke from the back and Holmes is fighting it. Holmes reverses and gets to his feet and looks to take the back of Park. Holmes with an elbow and they roll to end the first. 10-9 Holmes.

They both throw to start the second and Park grabs the tie up and gets the back and drags it to the mat. Park moves to the mount and lands some punches. Park lands from the top. Park looks for the choke and he’s cranking the neck and has Holmes in trouble but lets go. Park remains in full mount and is landing big punches from the top. Park gets the rear-naked choke locked in and he has it in deep with Holmes flattened and Holmes taps. Park with the clinic on the mat as he gets the finish.

They trade leg kicks. They trade right hands. Rogerio drops Arlovski with a punch and gets on top and is landing from the guard. Rogerio gets the mount and is looking for the back. Rogerio landing punches and is cranking the neck. He has it under the chin for the choke and Arlovski taps. Big win for Rogerio.

They’re feeling each other out early. They trade body shots. Dolidze throws a head kick and Hawes ducks under. Hawes lands a right hand. Hawes ducks under a Dolidze punch and gets a takedown and lands some elbows and punches from the guard. Dolidze lands some elbows from the bottom and switches to the armbar but lets go and attacks the leg. They get to their feet and Hawes is clearly hurt and having trouble standing. Dolidze with a leg kick. Dolidze with the jab. Dolidze lands a right hand. Hawes is having trouble standing but then Dolidze lands a couple of big punches that puts Hawes’ lights out. Gore gets it down right away and is in the half-guard of Fremd. Gore transitions and grabs the neck and they get to their feet. Gore drags it down as he still has the front headlock, but Fremd escapes. They’re pushed up against the fence. Gore picks Fremd up and gets the big slam takedown and takes the back and gets the hooks right in. Fremd escapes and they stand and Gore lands a right hand. Gore with the jab and Fremd lands a leg kick. Gore with a snapping jab. Fremd lands a right hand. Fremd with a leg kick. Fremd lands a combo and pushes Gore against the fence.
