UFC on ESPN+ 69 live results: Mackenzie Dern vs. Yan Xiaonan

After a week off, the UFC kicks off a busy month of October with the first of four events to take place during the month, this one headlined by a strawweight bout that could have title shot ramifications on the line.

Fifth-ranked Mackenzie Dern takes on sixth-ranked Yan Xiaonan in a five-round headline bout in the strawweight division. Dern will be looking to notch her second straight win after scoring a decision over Tecia Torres in April, while Yan will be looking to get back into the win column after dropping a decision to Marina Rodriguez in March. Both women are a combined 13-4 during their UFC careers.

Also on the main card is a welterweight bout between Randy Brown and Francisco Trinaldo, a bantamweight bout pitting Raoni Barcelos against Trevin Jones, a featherweight contest that sees 12th-ranked Sodiq Yusuff welcoming Don Shainis to the UFC, and an exciting lightweight fight between Mike Davis and Viacheslav Borshchev.

> Bantamweights- Guido Cannetti (9-6, 3-5 UFC) vs. Randy Costa (6-3, 2-3 UFC)

Cannetti with a body kick right away. Cannetti with a couple of inside leg kicks. Costa lands a kick but Cannetti kicks his legs from under him. Costa slips and Cannetti jumps on the back and locks in a rear-naked choke and Costa taps! What a finish out of nowhere from Cannetti.

> 140-pound Women’s Catchweights- Julija Stoliarenko (10-6-1, 1-4 UFC) vs. Chelsea Chandler (4-1, 0-0 UFC)

Stoliarenko gets a takedown right away and moves to the mount and is looking for the arm. Chandler got away and ends up in the guard of Stoliarenko. They get to their feet and exchange punches with Chandler landing a right hook. They trade and Stoliarenko gets a takedown but Chandler reverses and is in the mount. They get to their feet. Chandler lands a left hand. Chandler with a combo. Chandler with a left hand. Stoliarenko tries a takedown but Chandler gets to the mount and is landing punches. Big punches from Chandler and it is stopped. Impressive debut from Chandler.

> Middleweights- Krzysztof Jotko (24-5, 11-5 UFC) vs. Brendan Allen (19-5, 7-2 UFC)

Allen with a big kick and Jotko gets the takedown. Allen goes for an armlock but Jotko escapes to the half-guard. Jotko working to improve position from the top but not a ton of action happening. Allen reverses and is in the full guard of Jotko. They get up for a moment and Allen gets a takedown and almost had the mount but is in half-guard looking to move to side control. Allen looking for either an arm-triangle choke or the mount. Allen gets the back and has a rear-naked choke locked in and Jotko taps! Big win for Allen!

> Lightweights- Joaquim Silva (11-3, 4-3 UFC) vs. Jesse Ronson (21-11 1 NC, 0-4 1 NC UFC)

Ronson with a body kick. Silva with a hard body kick. Ronson with a jab. There isn’t much action happening. Silva lands a right hand. They trade jabs. Ronson with an inside leg kick. Ronson with a flurry. Ronson lands a body kick. Silva with a body shot. Silva lands a heavy right hand. Silva with some hard shots and lands a flying knee late that puts Ronson to the mat but time runs out. 10-9 Silva.

Ronson coming out pressing forward and landing to start the second. Ronson with a leg kick. Silva with a right hand and he tries a step-in knee but Ronson grabs it though he lets go. Silva with a jab then a left hand. Silva with a jumping knee and a right hand. Silva then drops Ronson with a knee and starts landing from the top until he gets the finish. Solid work from Silva to get the win there.

*Breaking- A light heavyweight bout between Maxim Grishin and Philipe Lins, which was scheduled for the main card, has been scratched from the card after doctors did not clear Lins to compete.

> Heavyweights- Ilir Latifi (15-8 1 NC, 8-6 UFC) vs. Aleksei Oleinik (60-16-1, 9-7 UFC)

Oleinik lands some punches and leg kicks early. Latifi gets a takedown and is in the guard of Oleinik. Latifi with body shots from the top. Latifi still on top but there is not a whole lot of action happening. They’re basically holding each other. Latifi does land some punches. Latifi ends the round on top and it sure was an eventful round. 10-9 Latifi.

Both looking for openings in the first minute as nothing happens. Latifi lands a left hand. Latifi with a right hand. Oleinik with a leg kick and lands a combo. They trade in close range. Oleinik with a leg kick and they clinch. They quickly break. Oleinik with the jab then a right hand. Latifi shoots for a takedown but Oleinik sprawls away. Latifi gets a takedown. Latifi is in side control and lands some big elbows. Oleinik gives up his back and Latifi lands some punches. Latifi gets back to side control at the end of the round. 10-9 Latifi, 20-18 Latifi.

They clinch back up and Latifi lands some short uppercuts before they break. They clinch again and Oleinik with a knee to the body. They break but they clinch up again against the fence. Oleinik tries for a takedown but Latifi spins and grabs the back. They end the fight tied up. Boring fight. 10-9 Latifi, 30-27 Latifi.

Castaneda with a leg kick then a body kick. Santos with a combo and gets a takedown but Castaneda has the neck. He uses it to get up and they tie up against the fence. They break. Santos with a leg kick. Castaneda lands a high kick that hurts Santos and they go to the mat and Castaneda gets on top. Castaneda stands to get better position and Santos lands an upkick and gets up. They scramble back down and Castaneda is on top and lands some punches. Castaneda looking for the mount. They get to their feet and separate. Santos with a body kick. They trade and Castaneda gets a takedown and scrambles to the half-guard. They get to their feet. Santos with a body kick then a combo. Castaneda with a big high kick that rocks Santos. Castaneda with a flurry of punches and Santos is somehow still on his feet and lands some punches. Santos with a knee to the body of Castaneda. They trade in close range. Fun round. 10-9 Castaneda.

Santos lands a right hand. We have a timeout for a groin strike by Santos. They get back to action and Santos lands a body kick. They tie up and Castaneda gets a brief takedown but they scramble up, then scramble down then back up. Santos lands some uppercuts as they’re clinched up but they break. They trade nice punches. Santos shoots for a takedown but Castaneda defends and Santos has the back against the fence. They break and Santos lands a knee on the break. Santos with a spinning back fist and then lands a big right hand and some follow-up shots. Santos with a flurry. They trade against the fence. Santos with a head kick. Castaneda tries a takedown but Santos defends. Santos with a right hand. Santos with a big flurry against the fence. Santos with two big knees and Castaneda falls to the mat and the fight is stopped. What a fight and what a finish from Santos.

> Lightweights- Mike Davis (9-2, 2-1 UFC) vs. Viacheslav Borshchev (6-2, 1-1 UFC)

Borshchev landing a lot of leg kicks to start things off. Davis lands a right hand and gets a takedown. They get back to their feet and Davis gets the back and takes it back down for a moment. They get to their feet and Davis still has the back. Davis lands a knee and they go down to the mat and Davis lands some left hands but they get up. Davis lands some punches but they end up separating. Borshchev lands some body punches and Davis easily takes him down. Davis gets to the mount. Davis with an elbow from the top. Davis with big right hands from the top. Davis with more big shots and this could be stopped soon. Davis continues to land punches from the top. Borshchev is able to survive. 10-9 Davis.

Davis gets a takedown and they scramble and end up on their feet. Davis is able to get another takedown and gets the mount. Davis looks for the arm-triangle choke. Davis lets go and gets back to the mount and is lading punches. Borshchev gives up his back and ends up able to escape but Davis gets it right back down. Davis with some right hands from the top at the end of the round. 10-9 Davis, 20-18 Davis.

They trade to start the third. Davis with a right hand and they trade leg kicks. Davis is having trouble seeing. Davis gets a takedown. Davis in the full guard of Borshchev. Davis landing right hands from the top. Davis with a right hand from the top as he stands. They get to their feet and Davis gets it back down. Davis ends the fight on top landing. 10-9 Davis, 30-27 Davis.

They clinch and Yusuff was landing knees as Shainis was landing body shots. Yusuff grabs the neck and drops down with a guillotine choke and Shainis taps out! Quick finish from Yusuff as he gets the win.

They trade punches and Jones with a leg kick. Barcelos with a body kick. They tie up against the fence but break after Barcelos lands a knee. Jones with a leg kick. Barcelos lands a right hand. Barcelos gets a takedown and Jones tries to scramble to his feet and Barcelos has the back and threatens with the neck. Barcelos gets the mount and lands some punches. Barcelos ends the first on top. 10-9 Barcelos.

They trade some leg kicks and Barcelos lands a left hook. Barcelos with a knee as he pushes Jones against the fence and they clinch. They break to the center. Barcelos with some body kicks. Barcelos lands a right hand and they go to the mat and Barcelos is on top and landing. Barcelos gets to side control. Jones tries to scramble but Barcelos is able to take the back and gets a hook in. Jones is landing body kicks as Barcelos lands some right hands to start the third. Barcelos lands an uppercut. Barcelos with a right hand. Trinaldo with a leg kick. Brown landing lots of leg kicks early. Brown drops Trinaldo with a right hand but Trinaldo gets right up. Brown lands a right hand. Trinaldo tries for a takedown against the fence but Brown grabs the fence to defend. They’re tied up and Brown lands a knee as they break. Trinaldo gets a takedown and had the back but Brown slips out. Trinaldo still looking for the arm. Trinaldo tried for an armbar and had mount for a second but Brown gets to his feet. Brown with a hard leg kick as Trinaldo is on his back. Brown with a right hand and he grabs Trinaldo’s neck. They make it to the end of the round. 10-9 Brown.

Brown landing the jab to start the second as Trinaldo is pressing forward. Brown is mixing his strikes well and avoiding the punches of Trinaldo. Brown landing the jab and leg kicks. Trinaldo lands a nice left hand. Brown with a right hand to the body. Brown with a step-in knee. Trinaldo tries a takedown as he gets the back of Brown against the fence. They trade in close range as they tie up for a brief second. Yan lands a nice right hand. Yan with some leg kicks. Dern with a leg kick. Dern with a left hook as Yan lands a leg kick. Dern clinches up and looks for a takedown against the fence. Yan lands a knee to the body before they break. Yan with a leg kick. She lands another. Dern with a body kick and Yan lands a right hand. Dern tries a takedown but Yan defends. They trade inside the pocket before clinching. Dern tries a throw but Yan ends up taking Dern’s back and the gets on top and is landing punches. Dern with a late knee as they got up. Close round. 10-9 Yan.

They trade and Dern is trying to get Yan to the mat and Dern is able to pull guard and Yan lands from the top. Dern is looking for the leg and a leg lock but Yan is defending from the top. Dern is able to get the back and kind of has an omaplata locked in. Dern transitions to the arm-triangle choke and Yan is in trouble. Yan is able to get out. Dern gets the back and flattens Yan out and lands some punches. Dern landing a lot of punches. Dern gets the mount and almost had an armbar in but gets the back and is landing punches. Yan with some kicks to start the third. Yan lands more leg kicks. Dern with a combo. They tie up and Yan lands a knee and Dern is able to pull guard. They get to their feet and trade punches. Dern with a body kick. Yan with a teet kick. Dern lands a leg kick. Yan lands a big left hand that snapped Dern’s head back. Yan with a combo. Yan tries a kick but Dern grabs the leg looking for the takedown but lets go. Dern just barely lands a head kick. Yan lands a right hand. Yan with a leg kick. Dern gets a late takedown. 10-9 Yan, 29-28 Yan.

Dern lands a left hand. Dern with a right hand. Dern shoots for a takedown against the fence. She gets the single leg. She lets go as they go back to the center. Yan with a leg kick. They trade jabs. Yan lands a couple of hard right hands. Yan with the jab. Yan with a leg kick. Dern with a body kick. Yan with a side kick to the body. Yan with some kicks and she lands a spinning back fist. Dern comes out aggressive and lands some punches before they clinch against the fence. Dern gets it down. Dern looking for the arm. She keeps landing but not much else is going on. Dern now looking for an armbar. Yan escapes and starts landing from the top and both are landing on the mat to end things.
