UFC on ESPN+ 51 live results: Thiago Santos vs. Johnny Walker

The UFC kicks off a busy month of October with the first of five events being held during the month, with an exciting light heavyweight main event kicking everything off.

Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos looks to end a three-fight losing skid when he takes on exciting opponent Johnny Walker in the five-round main event. Santos is looking to rebound from losses to Jon Jones, Glover Teixeira and Aleksandar Rakic and score his first win since February 2019. Walker fights for the first time in over a year as he looks to score his second straight win after finishing Ryan Spann in September 2020.

Also on the main card is a battle of middleweights as Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus square off, welterweights Alex Oliveira and Niko Price meet in a battle between the two men on the UFC roster with the most kids, as well as a middleweight bout as Misha Cirkunov takes on Krzysztof Jotko.

Bantamweights

Eduardo landing leg kicks right away. They trade jabs and Eduardo with a leg kick and just misses a right hand. Eduardo with a leg kick and Perez lands a counter right hand. Eduardo lands a right hand to the body. He lands a leg kick. Eduardo lands a combo to the body. They trade in close range with both landing. Eduardo with a leg kick. Perez lands a leg kick. Eduardo lands a leg kick. Perez with a right hand. Perez the one pressing forward. 10-9 Eduardo.

Perez lands first to start the round then Eduardo starts landing leg kicks and one to the body. Perez throws a punch and they tie up and Eduardo gets the takedown and works on the top near the fence. They scramble up and Perez gets a takedown and works from the top. Perez looks for the neck a couple of times but Eduardo is able to escape and Perez gets to full side control. Perez hooking the arm and gets a form of a choke and Eduardo taps. Nice finish by Perez.

Women’s Bantamweights

Young lands a body kick. Both throwing wildly and they clinch before breaking. Egger lands a combo. Young with a body kick. Young throws some punches as she rushes into the clinch. Egger gets a takedown and almost got into full mount. Young attacking the leg looking for a leg lock. Egger landing some big shots as she stands. Egger is able to move side control. She lands punches from the position. Egger lands some elbows. 10-9 Egger.

Young throwing and lands a body kick to start the second. Egger lands a nice right hand. Egger with a leg kick and Young lands a right hand. Egger gets a takedown and is in side control. Egger landing some left hands and Young is trying to use the fence to escape. Egger with a big elbow and Young is covering up and the fight is stopped. Nice finish by Egger.

Bantamweights

Pirrello with a hard leg kick to start. Pirrello with another leg kick and Andrade lands a combo with a big right hand. They clinch and Andrade with a hard foot stomp and they break. They trade kicks. Pirrello went for a kick and Andrade lands a left hook that sends Pirrello right to the mat and it is over after Andrade lands a hammerfist as Chris Tognoni was rushing in to stop it. What a knockout by Andrade.

Lightweights

Smith with a jab and Mullarkey with a leg kick. Mullarkey lands another. Smith with a combo, and then another. Mullarkey with a body kick. Mullarkey with a hard leg kick. Smith with a right hand and then a combo wobbles Mullarkey. Smith threw a knee and lost his balance and Mullarkey recovered. Smith rocks Mullarkey with a combo and a knee but Mullarkey recovers. Smith with a leg kick. Both throwing as Mullarkey rushes in. Mullarkey has the back as the round ends. 10-9 Smith.

Mullarkey lands the jab. Mullarkey with a nice heavy leg kick. Smith circles away and they trade jabs. Mullarkey with another leg kick as he’s attacking the lead leg. Mullarkey with a right hand as Smith lands a leg kick. They’re trading punches. They tie up and Mullarkey with some knees. Mullarkey with an elbow and more knees and then more elbows and then some punches. Mullarkey with some big shots and Smith falls to the ground and Mullarkey with some big punches and it is stopped. Wow, what a comeback and upset as Mullarkey gets the win.

Women’s Bantamweights* (Correia missed weight by 2.5 pounds)

Rosa with a leg kick. Rosa with a right hand. They clinch and Rosa with some knees to the body. Rosa lands some more knees to the body. Rosa lands a right hand. Correia missing her punch attempts. Rosa with a combo and then lands some knees in a quick clinch. Rosa with a combo. Rosa lands a jab. Rosa with a body kick. Rosa with a combo. Rosa shoots for a takedown against the fence but Correia defends as the end of the first. 10-9 Rosa.

Rosa landing the jab and staying busy on the feet. Rosa lands a leg kick and Correia lands a right and Rosa with a left. Rosa continuing to land at will. Rosa with a leg kick and a combo. Rosa pouring it on and lands some knees in the clinch against the fence. They battle for position against the fence but neither doing much. They trade body punches. They break and both land. Rosa with a leg kick and a step-in knee followed by a couple of more knees. Rosa with a big elbow and then some more elbows and another step-in knee as Rosa closes the round out strong. 10-9 Rosa, 20-18 Rosa.

Both landing to start the third and Rosa landing combos and leg kicks. Rosa with another step-in knee. Rosa with some left hands and leg kicks. Correia lands a right hand. Rosa lands a jab. Rosa with a step-in knee and then a right hand. Rosa continues to land and work in the clinch. Correia tries a late takedown but Rosa defends and lands from the top at the end. 10-9 Rosa, 30-27 Rosa.

Women’s Flyweights

O’Neill with pressure right away and is landing. Shevchenko lands a combo but eats some punches and a body kick from O’Neill. They trade and we have a warning for Shevchenko. They get back to action and trade and Shevchenko tries for a takedown but they scramble for position on the mat. Shevchenko clears the leg and gets side control. Shevchenko with some short punches. Shevchenko traps the arm and lands but O’Neill escapes. They break. They trade in close range and Shevchenko with some knees from the Thai clinch. They trade and O’Neill looks for a taedown and gets it and is on top. O’Neill landing from the top. O’Neill stands and lands and Shevchenko is getting warned about toes in the cage. They get to their feet. Shevchenko throws a kick and O’Neill catches it and takes her down and lands some big shots to end the round. Close round. 10-9 O’Neill.

O’Neill pressing forward and both land as they clinch. Shevchenko with a few knees and they break. Shevchenko with a leg kick and O’Neill lands a counter shot. O’Neill then gets a takedown and is in the guard of Shevchenko. Shevchenko trying to escape and gives her back to O’Neill, who lands some punches. O’Neill has the back and gets the hooks in. O’Neill swings arond to the top and has the full mount. O’Neill with some punches and elbows. O’Neill with some big shots from the top. She’s landing lots of punches and Shevchenko is covering up. O’Neill looks for a choke but goes back to punching. O’Neill staying busy and is landing lots of shots. O’Neill with some heavy elbows. More big shots from the mount and more elbows from O’Neill. This should be stopped. More big shots from O’Neill and it’s finally stopped. That was way late but what a stoppage by O’Neill.

Lightweights

Solecki gets a takedown. Solecki has the body locked on the ground and lands some punches. Solecki with more left hands. Solecki gets the back and is landing punches as he looks for the neck. Gordon having real trouble getting out of this position. Solecki looks to wrap the arm and is still landing punches. Solecki with more right hands. Solecki continues to land. Gordon is able to switch to the top and he lands some elbows from the top. 10-9 Solecki.

Gordon lands an uppercut but Solecki gets the body and scores a takedown, but they scramble up. Solecki with the pressure against the fence. Solecki with a big knee. Gordon with some side elbows to the side of the head. Gordon lands a couple of knees as Solecki is trying hard for the takedown. They continue to be tied up as they switch sides on the cage and Solecki gets the takedown. Gordon now on top and in the guard of Solecki and he’s landing some. Solecki trying to sweep but Gordon blocks. Gordon landing from the top as Solecki is looking a little more tired. 10-9 Gordon, 19-19.

They’re trading to start the third and Gordon is really working the jab and landing better. Gordon with some leg kicks. They continue to trade and Gordon is getting the better of it. Gordon shoots for the takedown but eats a knee as Solecki defends. Gordon has position against the fence. They separate and Gordon with a leg kick. Gordon lands as he comes in for the clinch and gets a brief takedown. They stand and break. They trade punches and Gordon with a leg kick. They trade and both land. Breeden is making his UFC debut but he did miss weight. Breeden lands a right hand to start. Hernandez with a right hand to the body. Hernandez goes for a takedown but lets go and lands an elbow. Hernandez landing and Breeden is hurt. Hernandez landing some big shots and then drops Breeden with a massive right hand and it is over. What a finish by Hernandez!

Middleweights

They trade leg kicks. Cirkunov tries a takedown but Jotko defends and they break. Jotko with a leg kick. Cirkunov gets a takedown with a trip but they get right back up. They’re clinched against the fence but separate. Cirkunov with a leg kick. Jotko lands one. They trade punches. They trade kicks and punches. Cirkunov with a leg kick. They trade punches and Cirkunov lands a leg kick. Cirkunov with a short right hook. Jotko with a leg kick. Cirkunov almost gets a takedown but Jotko defends and they battle in the clinch as the round ends. Close round. 10-9 Cirkunov.

They both land leg kicks in the opening seconds of the second. Cirkunov goes for a takedown against the fence. Jotko grabbed the fence to block the takedown. They trade to start the third and Cirkunov tries for a takwdown and is able to complete it. They scramble up and Cirkunov has the back and lands a knee. Cirkunov still has the back and Jotko goes to a knee and Cirkunov landing some knees. Cirkunov still has the back. Cirkunov gets a takedown but they pop right up. They clinch and Jotko with some knees. Cirkunov tries a takedown but Jotko defends and they separate. Jotko tries a trip takedown but it doesn’t work and they’re clinched. They break and Jotko with an eye poke and we have another timeout. They get back to action. Jotko with a head kick. Jotko gets a late takedown. Close fight. 10-9 Jotko, 29-28 Jotko.

Middleweights

They trade leg kicks and Daukaus lands some punches as he goes for a takedown. Holland able to defend. Daukaus briefly gets him down. They battle against the fence and Daukaus has the neck. Not much is happening and they break. They clashed heads and Holland went down and Daukaus jumps on top and starts landing. Daukaus now looking for a choke. He has a guillotine lokced in but Holland escapes. Daukaus landing punches and has the back as they stand. Daukaus has the rear-naked choke locked in and Holland taps! The clash of heads changed everything. After a long discussion, the fight has been ruled a no contest. That feels like the right call, and they should run it back.
