UFC on ESPN 29 live results: Jared Cannonier vs. Kelvin Gastelum

The Octagon is back at its home base in Las Vegas after a week in Houston and a following week off, as UFC action returns with a middleweight main event between two men trying to get into title contention.

Jared Cannonier will battle former TUF winner and former title challenger Kelvin Gastelum in the five-round headline bout. Cannonier is fighting for the first time since October as he looks to get back into the win column after dropping a decision to Robert Whittaker. He was out due to surgery following the fight and returns after a near ten-month layoff. Gastelum is also coming in off a decision loss to Whittaker, which came in April, and he looks to work his way back into the top five and up the middleweight ladder.

Also on the main card is a lightweight bout between long-time veteran and fan favorite Clay Guida and the undefeated Mark O. Madsen, a heavyweight bout between Parker Porter and Chase Sherman, a lightweight bout pitting Vinc Pichel against Austin Hubbard, and flyweight contenders Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval open the main card.

They trade jabs to start and Brahimaj gets a takedown but they work their way up to their feet. They scramble back down and Brahimaj in the guard of Palatnikov. Brahimaj passes to the half-guard. Brahimaj moves to the mount and is looking to set something up. Brahimaj looking for a rear-naked choke as he takes the back. It is in tight. Palatnikov trying to fight it off but it is still in tight. Palatnikov goes out cold! Nice win for Brahimaj.

Nunes connects with a big combo in close range. Nunes with a lot of punches but Malecki eating them. Malecki lands a head kick and then a body kick. Malecki landing a lot at range. Pilarte with a head kick but Kelleher blocks it. Kelleher lands to the body and gets a takedown and is in side control. Pilarte gets Kelleher into his guard. Kelleher with some left hands from the top. Kelleher with some nice elbows from the top. Kelleher mixing to the body as Pilarte tries to throw his legs up. Kelleher with some punches. Kelleher still working from the top and lands some big punches as he stands. Kelleher gets back on top but Pilarte lands a big hammerfist from his back. Pilarte with a high kick to start the second. They trade and Kelleher gets the takedown near the center of the cage. Kelleher working from the top and landing as Pilarte not doing much from the bottom. Kelleher still working from the top and then passes to side control. Pilarte able to roll to his feet but gives up his neck and Kelleher drops down for a guillotine. Pilarte able to escape but Kelleher gets the guillotine locked back in. Kakhramonov took this fight on Tuesday while he was still in Uzbekistan. They clinch right up and Kakhramonov getsa takedown and then has the neck and is looking for a guillotine standing. They go down and Kakhramonov still has it locked in. Jones escapes it but Kakhramonov still has the neck. They get to their feet. They tie up against the fence. Kakhramonov with some hammerfists to the thighs of Jones. Jones has the double underhooks and lands some knees. They trade knees. Kakhramonov with a knee to the body of Jones.
