Daniel Cormier-Stipe Miocic rematch set for August’s UFC 241

Just over a year from when they first fought, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic will do it again.
Made official Saturday, Cormier vs. Miocic will headline August’s UFC 241 from Anaheim, CA, in a rematch of last July’s champion vs. champion encounter that saw Cormier knock out Miocic and walk away with two belts.
The fight came together after negotations for Brock Lesnar to return and fight the 40-year-old Cormier fell apart over money according to our Dave Meltzer. According to UFC president Dana White, Lesnar told him he retired.
The 36-year-old Miocic has been campaigning for a rematch with Cormier for some time and showed little to no interest in fighting anyone else. Cormier didn’t show much interest in the rematch but wasn’t left with a lot of options if he indeed wants to retire this year.
Miocic made UFC heavyweight history with a record three consecutive defenses of the title. Cormier will be looking for his second consecutive defense after submitting Derrick Lewis in November.
