Conor McGregor agrees to January UFC return, wants stadium show

The on-again, off-again UFC career of Conor McGregor appears to be on again. 

The former two division champion tweeted Wednesday that he has accepted an offer to face former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier on Saturday, January 23rd. However, he wants the fight at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. 

I accept, Jan 23rd is on!
My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans!

“Manny” is a reference to Manny Pacquiao, the multi-division boxing champion that McGregor has mentioned wanting to fight since facing Floyd Mayweather in his boxing debut. 

Poirier is down for the fight, asking McGregor what weight he wants it at. The two fought at UFC 178 in September 2014 with McGregor defeating him by first round TKO. Earlier in the week, Poirier said the UFC has yet to present him with a contract for the fight while ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported no bout agreement has been signed yet by McGregor.

Several weeks ago on Twitter, McGregor floated the idea that the two should have a charity sparring match in Dublin, Ireland, with a sizeable donation to be made to Poirier’s charitable foundation.

McGregor’s last fight was in January, a 40-second win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the Irish star’s first MMA fight since losing to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier is coming off a June Fight of the Year candidate against Dan Hooker.
