Anthony Pettis misses weight for UFC 206 headliner

Anthony Pettis will miss an opportunity to become the Interim UFC Featherweight Champion as he missed weight for the UFC 206 headliner during the official weigh-ins on Friday morning. Ariel Helwani reported that he was going to miss prior to him stepping on the scale during MMAFighting’s live video feed of this morning’s weigh-in festivities.
Pettis officially weighed in at 148 pounds. He had to weigh in at no more than 145 pounds to make his title fight against Max Holloway official. Holloway had already successfully made weight at 145 pounds earlier during weigh-ins.
This is the first time a fighter has missed weight for a championship bout since Travis Lutter missed weight at UFC 67 way back in February 2007.
The fight will still take place and will remain a five-round main event. If Holloway wins, he becomes the Interim UFC Featherweight Champion. Should Pettis defeat Holloway, he will not become champion. Pettis was looking to become the fourth fighter in UFC history to win championships in two different weight classes.
