Austin Aries set for ROH Best in the World PPV

Austin Aries will again be wrestling for Ring of Honor later this month.

ROH announced Aries for their June 29 Best in the World pay-per-view in Baltimore, Maryland today. An opponent for Aries wasn’t revealed, but potential programs with Kenny King and Silas Young were set up coming out of his last match for the promotion.

Aries challenged Young, who was then ROH Television Champion, in May. He appeared to win the title when King hit Young with a belt shot as Young was trying to use it as a weapon. But the storyline following the match was that the result was changed to a disqualification due to King helping Aries. Aries then low blowed King and gave him a brainbuster.

Aries currently holds the Impact Wrestling World Championship. He returned to ROH at their 16th Anniversary PPV in March and appeared at Supercard of Honor XII over WrestleMania weekend to set up the match with Young.

Young lost the TV title to Punishment Martinez last weekend, and Martinez will be defending it against Hangman Page in a street fight at Best in the World. Here’s the updated card for the PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Dalton Castle defending against Cody Rhodes and Marty Scurll in a triple threat match
  • ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defending against The Young Bucks
  • ROH Television Champion Punishment Martinez defending against Hangman Page in a street fight
  • ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan & Vinny Marseglia) defending against SANADA, EVIL & BUSHI
  • Jay Lethal vs. KUSHIDA
  • Bully Ray vs. Flip Gordon
  • Sumie Sakai, Mayu Iwatani, Tenille Dashwood & Jenny Rose vs. Kelly Klein, Hazuki, Kagetsu & Hana Kimura
