First created in 1986, the Cup tournament was held annually through 1988 before Jim Crockett Promotions sold the company to Ted Turner.
NWA owner William Corgan revived the Cup in 2019 with Brody King and PCO defeating Latimer and Royce Isaacs in the final to win the then-vacant Tag Team titles.
The tournament was set to return in April 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
